Michael Dixon (he/him) was born at a naval base (NAS Jax) in Jacksonville, Florida to two immigrant parents, one from Jamaica, the other from the Philippines. Because his father was in the military, the family moved around a number of times during his childhood before settling down in a small coastal town in North Carolina. On a partial scholarship with promises to become a high school mathematics teacher with a specialization in statistics, Michael enrolled in North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. However, Michael’s personal interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion turned into an academic pursuit because he changed his major to multidisciplinary studies focusing on philosophy and critical race studies.
His time in the South ended with a move to the Midwest to pursue a degree in college student affairs leadership at Grand Valley State University. Michael has worked in four Midwest states: Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana in positions to range within student affairs. The one persistent and consistent in his life was the presence of diversity, equity, and inclusion in those positions. While in Indiana, Michael enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Educational Administration at Indiana State University. He is currently a doctoral candidate in that program.
Now, Michael has transitioned to the Northeast working at Susquehanna University as the Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer in the Office of the President. In that role, he is responsible for providing strategic innovation and vision for the University’s diversity, equity, and inclusion direction.
The philosophy of Quincy Michael Consulting Group, LLC is to provide strategic and innovative solutions to pressing issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
