About
The
founder

Michael Dixon (he/him) was born at a naval base (NAS Jax) in Jacksonville, Florida, to two immigrant parents, one from Jamaica and the other from the Philippines. Because his father was in the military, the family moved around several times during his childhood before settling down in a small coastal town in North Carolina. On a partial scholarship with promises to become a high school mathematics teacher with a specialization in statistics, Michael enrolled in North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. However, Michael’s interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion turned into an academic pursuit because he changed his major to multidisciplinary studies focusing on philosophy and critical race studies.

His time in the South ended with a move to the Midwest to pursue a college student affairs leadership degree at Grand Valley State University. Michael has worked in student affairs positions in four Midwest states (Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana). The one persistent and consistent factor in his life was the presence of diversity, equity, and inclusion in those positions. Michael enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Educational Administration at Indiana State University. He is currently a doctoral candidate.
